“Tin Can” Sailors Work Detail and Reunion

Their Navy days are long over, but for a group of veterans there is still a mission aboard USS The Sullivans, a storied ship now docked permanently at the Buffalo Naval and Military Park. The destroyer was built in 1943 and the elements give it a constant beating. So now, 40 to 50 members of the Tin Can Sailors have signed up for clean-up duty, and to even briefly live aboard the ship. For them, this is a labor of love … and loyalty for their proud service as sailors on a fighting Navy ship known affectionately as a “Tin Can.”
