Setting SMART Reunion Goals – By Lisa A. Alzo, M.F.A.

January is a great time to focus on setting goals. Whether you are planning a reunion this year, or further into the future, the more you plan, the more fun you will have when the time arrives. But let’s face it, organizing such an event can be a bit daunting.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed, first outline short-term goals that support your long-term goal of organizing your reunion. Then, start with one goal and note what you hope to accomplish. Once complete, move on to your next short-term goal. Continue this process until all short-term goals are complete. For reunion planning short-term goals might include booking a venue, designing invitations, or organizing a photo scanning/story sharing activity.

As you make your way through your tasks, avoid the temptation to veer off in too many directions. One way to focus is to implement the SMART method of goal setting. SMART stands for:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable (Actionable)
  • Relevant (Realistic)
  • Time-bound

An example of a 2025 SMART goal for my family’s 58th reunion: To Scan and Organize Past Reunion Photographs

Specific: I will use my Vivid-Pix Memory Station https://www.vivid-pix.com/memorystation  to scan 100 past reunions in 30 days.

Measurable:  I will finish scanning 100 reunion photographs in 30 days.

Attainable (Actionable):  I will use my Vivid-Pix Memory Station to scan 25 reunion photos per week for four weeks.

Relevant (Realistic):  Using my Vivid-Pix Memory Station, will scan 100 reunion photographs in 30 days. I will scan five photos per day, five days a week for four weeks.

Time-bound: I will scan 100 reunion photographs in 30 days. I will use my Vivid-Pix Memory Station to scan 25 photos per week. I will do this by scanning five photos per day for five days each week. I will have 100 photographs scanned by 31 March 2025.

Try the SMART method for your goals and you will be on your way to making your reunion thrive in 2025!
