Not Just Another New Years Eve! By Lisa A. Alzo, M.F.A.

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2024, people around the world will soon gather for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The end of a year is both a time for reflection on what has happened and consideration of what lies ahead. Perhaps you will spend time with family and friends or attend a community sponsored event. Whether planned or impromptu, such occasions can offer great opportunities to share memories. But if December 31 doesn’t work for your schedule, you can host a New Year’s Party theme reunion any month of the year. Here are few ideas to involve all attendees in the festivities.

  1. Stock up on decorations. Look for sales on streamers, hats, favors, non-breakable flutes and partyware.
  2. Plan your menu. Think appetizers, festive cookies or cupcakes, and sparkling wine and juice. Search for recipes online and save them so they are easily accessible when you are ready to prepare for your event.
  3. Build a time capsule. Have everyone bring an item that represents their personalities or interests (a family photograph, t-shirt or hat, a stuffed animal, or a postcard for a favorite place.) Designate one person to be the keeper of the time capsule and label all items with the current date. You can then plan a future event where you can use the items to reminisce about what happened during a certain year, decade, etc.
  4. Write down goals or resolutions. Have everyone write down a goal or resolution. Put them in a festive bowl and read them aloud at the end of the event or another designated time—for example at Noon with a “New Year’s at Noon” theme.
  5. Capture the moment. Be sure to record your memories. Take plenty of photos and video. Having a Vivid-Pix Memory Station https://www.vivid-pix.com/memorystation on hand will help streamline the process, making it easier to scan, restore, and share stories.

Happy New Year!  Wishing you all good things in 2025!
